Yuriy Mikhaylovich Luzhkov – Mayor of Moscow.
Yuriy M.Luzhkov was born in Moscow in 1936.
After graduating from Moscow institute of oil and gas named after I.M. Gubkin,
Luzhkov has been working as executive manager with different enterprises of
chemical industry.
From 1987 he was transferred to Moscow’s executive system and worked in
various bodies:
Moscow Executive Committee’s Chairman first deputy, Chairman of Moscow Agricultural
Industry Committee, Chairman of Moscow Council Executive Committee,
Vice-mayor, Prime minister of Moscow Government.
From 1992 Luzhkov replaced Gavriil H. Popov as a Mayor of Moscow.
Was reelected in 1996, 1999 and 2003.
Yuriy M. Luzhkov is a member of Russian Federation State Council and Russian Federation representative in the
Chamber of Regions of Europe’s Local Authorities’ Congress.
He is married with four children. Mayor’s hobbies include soccer, tennis and
bee breeding.
